Wireless Microphones Upgrade

A project nearly 12 months in the making is finally nearing completion – the FCC-mandated upgrade of our wireless microphones.  Late last year we received word that our grant application to the Michigan Arts and Culture Council (M.A.C.C.) to help pay for the project was successful. We immediately ordered the equipment, but due to post-Covid supply chain delays, some of the components did not arrive until mid July – just a couple of weeks ago!  Chief audio engineer Don Osier, with help from Tech VISTA worker Parker Smith (pictured) and Theatre Manager Bruce Greenhill immediately set about removing the old units and installing the new ones. (The old units operated in frequency ranges that the FCC sold to cell-phone companies – hence their mandate to upgrade our system.) Three of the new cordless mics were used during Saturday’s Song of the Lakes show. The general consensus from the tech crew and performers was that the new equipment delivered a crisper, cleaner sound. So our sincere thanks to M.A.C.C for again helping us to enhance the quality of the programs we deliver – and stay in the FCC’s good graces!
